Sioux Falls, SD. (July 1, 2008) - Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services, Inc. has awarded a scholarship to Melissa Ulbricht, a sophomore at Augustana College. Ulbricht received this scholarship due, in part, to the volunteer work she has done with individuals who have developmental disabilities.

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be active members of a Lutheran church, achieve at least a sophomore level status in college, obtain a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and be interested in pursuing a nursing career in the field of developmental disabilities.

Ulbricht is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree and expects to graduate in 2010. Upon graduation, she hopes to work with children, specifically those with developmental disabilities. Eventually, she hopes to go back to school for her master’s degree.

“As I prepare to enter my clinical setting,” she says, “my passion for helping others is only becoming stronger. While I can’t predict what I may encounter during my career, I can only hope to make a difference.”

Previously, Ulbricht worked as a Personal Care Assistant to a young boy with Down syndrome.

More information on Bethesda’s scholarship program can be found here or by calling 800.369.4636, ext. 4449. Information for next year’s scholarship opportunities will be available August 1, 2008.
