Watertown, Wis. (Nov. 25, 2009) -- Nella Uitvlugt, Executive Director of Friendship Ministries, was
presented with the 2009 Christian Service Award from Bethesda Lutheran Communities. Friendship
Ministries works to establish one-on-one relationships between people with disabilities and volunteer
mentors.
Bethesda's Christian Service Award recognizes Lutherans who serve the Lord by devoting their professional
time, talents and energy to helping people with developmental disabilities.
As Executive Director, Uitvlugt is largely responsible for the remarkable expansion the organization has seen
recently. Currently, the ministry is working to expand its outreach into Hispanic churches in the United States
and Latin America by developing a Spanish version of Friendship Bible Studies.
"Serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the community is a huge part of Friendship
Ministries and I'm thrilled to see that Bethesda has the same purpose," says Uitvlugt. "I feel so honored to
receive this award."
Now in its second century of service, Bethesda Lutheran Communities provides services and supports to
individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the country and around the world.
Bethesda offers many different types of services for individuals and their families, including a variety of
residential settings, supported-living programs and outreach services.
