Indianapolis, Ind. (June 28, 2010) -- Don Boden, Executive Director of Lutheran Disability Ministries
(LDM) has received the Jericho Friend Award from Cedar Lake, Inc. LDM is an affiliate of Bethesda Lutheran Communities that works with Lutheran churches in Indiana to equip congregations to provide spiritual support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Jericho Friend Award is the highest recognition by Cedar Lake to persons who are committed to and work for or with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“As a provider of residential options to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Cedar Lake recognizes the importance of esteeming those who bring outstanding support and care to those we are blessed to serve. Don Boden is such a person,” says Pastor Mark Whitsett, director of pastoral care for Cedar Lake. “His work has grown from simply being a friend to a full-time commitment to provide regular Christ-centered friendship and spiritual care for those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, along with their families.”
“While this award is actually is being given to me,” says Boden, “it is my opinion that it is the hundreds of people with LDM who make our ministry happen and who deserve this recognition. I humbly accept on their part.”
Now in its second century of service, Bethesda Lutheran Communities provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the country and around the world. Bethesda offers many different types of services for individuals and their families, including a variety of residential settings, supported-living programs and outreach services.
