Shop History

In 1960, Bethesda opened its first thrift shop in a Watertown garage. The store then moved to a small storefront opened on Main Street. Donations were shipped to the store from across the country.  The items that could not be used by people living at Bethesda were then sent to the store. All proceeds from the store were used to support other needs of people served and supported by Bethesda. In 1972, the store was moved to its present location on Montgomery Street  as a gift to Bethesda from Henry and Sophia Ziemann and Harry and Harriet Ziemann. The store is one of 12 Bethesda shops in Wisconsin. There are 20 Bethesda Thrift Shops throughout the country.
