Are You Wise!

Are You Wise?

Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (NIV)

Some people think they know everything. They have gone to college for many years. They have read many books. They have supervised many people in a business.

However, when asked about Jesus, they have a questioning look on their face. They do not know who you are talking about. In God’s eyes, these people know nothing that is important. They do not have true wisdom or understanding.

What kind of wisdom or understanding are we talking about? This kind of wisdom is the kind that knows that every person, including you and me, is a sinner, and that God does not like sin. This wisdom knows that we have no hope. This kind of wisdom knows that out of love for us, Jesus came to earth to take all our sins on His shoulders and then die on the cross for them. It knows that our sins are gone.

With God’s kind of wisdom, we know that Jesus rose again and later ascended into heaven. Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we know that we will rise and go to heaven. We have eternal hope. This is true wisdom.

Our Bible passage from Proverbs says that true wisdom only comes from God, from knowing Him and worshipping Him. We can’t even do that on our own. Only the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to know and worship God.

When we worship God, as well as listen to His Word and study it, then true wisdom comes to us. In the end, knowing and worshipping God is all that matters. Through worship, the Holy Spirit strengthens our faith. He uses our Bible readings, pastors, teachers, church services and sermons to give us the needed knowledge of Jesus’ redeeming love. This knowledge is important, whether we spent many years in college or we cannot read or write…whether we work in a workshop or are the boss over many people.

Thanks be to God that He gives us true wisdom!

Thank You, heavenly Father, for giving us true wisdom and putting the Holy Spirit in our hearts, so we could know and love You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
