Point Others To God

In our everyday lives, decisions need to be made, and we tend to worry about those decisions. We struggle as we try to figure out solutions to our problems.

Is there a better way? What should we do? We need to remember to look to God for help. Pray to Him. Look for help in His word.

Matthew 7: 7, 8, 11, and 12:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened…how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you…”

You and I need to first go to God for help. We should not put off asking Him for help, nor should we try to accomplish things on our own. We should always go to Him.

Rather than keeping God at a distance from us, we should draw closer to Him. God wants a close relationship with us. He loves us. We know that because He gave us His Son Jesus as our Savior, who died for our sins.

As we go to God and include Him in all that we do, we can in turn help others in a more meaningful way. And as we do good things for others, we can give God the glory. In that way, we point others to God.

Has anyone ever said to you, “You are such a good person. You are always helping others.” Some people have said that to me. I would usually cringe, because I knew that I wasn’t special for what I did. It was God who produced good works in me. After awhile I started telling people that. When they commented on my “goodness,” I would say, “It’s not me; it’s God working through me. His love for you and me just makes me look good.” I found this was a way that I could point others to God.

Sometimes we get very tired from doing good, like advocating for our child with a disability. But God gives us joy as we get to know Him better, through reading and studying the Bible. God also gives us helpers in our lives like our pastors. So, we must trust in God, and help others to know Him by pointing the way.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for providing for our needs. And thank you for helping us point others to You. We thank you in Jesus, our Savior’s name. Amen.
