God Knows Best
August 18, 2010
Norma D. Neuhart, Chaplaincy Representative – WIGod Knows Best Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. (NIV)For the last few years, Jane has gone to a Girl Scout camp near her home. She loved being outside and participating in all the outdoor activities, such as swimming, hiking, fishing, and doing nature crafts. Everything was just perfect. Then Jane got a letter in the mail. Because there had been a fire at the camp’s main lodge, all of the camping sessions had to be cancelled for the whole summer.
“Now what,” wailed Jane. “I really thought I was going to go to Girl Scout camp next week. Now everything went wrong. I can’t go to camp, and I have to stay home. Why would God do such a thing to me? ”
“I’m sorry you’re so disappointed, Jane,” said Mother. “Maybe you can find something interesting to do around here next week. God may have something else He wants you to do – and it may even be better than your plans.”
“Yeah, right,” whispered Jane under her breath as she stormed to her room.
The next day, Jane’s best friend Sally telephoned. “Guess what, Jane! My family and I are going to the state fair next week. Dad says that I may take a friend along. We will be staying at a motel overnight near the fairgrounds. This place even has a swimming pool and everything! Would you like to join us?”
“Wow!” exclaimed Jane. “Let me ask Mom.” She ran to the kitchen to ask her mother.
“Sure you can go with Sally and her family, Jane,” said Mother. “I guess God really did have something that is much more fun for you to do. He knows what is best all along. You just need to trust in Him. Just remember this the next time something happens that you don’t like or understand!”
Jane said, “You are right, Mom. I guess I just forgot. Thanks, God!” She ran back to the phone to tell Sally, and then began to pack.
Dear heavenly Father, thank You for always knowing what is best for us. Thank You for guiding our lives in the way You want us to go. Help us to trust You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
