Praise the Lord!
July 2, 2010
Harold Kopplin, Chaplaincy Representative – WIPraise the Lord! Psalm 33:1
Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. (NIV)The psalm writer, guided by God the Holy Spirit, encourages God’s people to sing joyfully and to praise Him. We are part of those people who are called righteous and upright, made right with God through Jesus our Savior.
So as we belong to the Lord, we should give Him thanks and praise. The verse says that this is the right thing to do.
How can we do it? Certainly our public worship is one way we can do it often. In different chapel or church services, we sing hymns and spiritual songs and other parts of the service. Being a part of a voice choir, bell choir, or rhythm choir is another excellent way to praise God and give Him joyful thanks. Or just playing rhythm instruments in a Bible class or Sunday school class, and singing different songs when we’re in those groups, is another way of doing what this psalm encourages us to do.
Our prayer life is a good way to praise the Lord, too. We pray in the morning when we get up, before and after meals, and when we get ready for bed at night. We pray by ourselves, with our families, co-workers, and friends. We also pray in Bible classes and church or chapel services. We say, sing, or sign our words of praise to our Triune God. That is prayer. That is another great way to show praise with thankful hearts!
Actually, our whole life can and should be a life of praise. Whatever we do…worship, work, or play…we can and should do it all to the glory of God. The Holy Spirit helps us do that.
Faithful Lord, send Your Holy Spirit to live in us every day so we can thank and praise You with our joyful songs and grateful hearts. Amen.
