Free Indeed!
July 4, 2010
Jeanne M. Dicke, Ministry Consultant – MN & WIFree Indeed! John 8:36
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (NIV)Today is a special day in America. It is the 4th of July or Independence Day. It’s the day Americans celebrate when the United States of America became a free nation.
We celebrate the 4th of July in different ways. Many people will fly a flag outside their home. Some will go to a parade or have a picnic with their friends and family. Others will go see a fireworks display at the city park. It’s a day for fun and celebrating the many freedoms we have in our country.
We can choose to go to church if we want to, or we can choose to not go to church. We can choose who we want to vote for, and no one can make us change our mind. We can disagree with our President and government leaders and not be put in jail. We have many freedoms in our country and have much to be thankful for.
Our freedoms are a wonderful blessing from God. However, there is another important freedom that believers in Jesus can celebrate today…and every day. It is the freedom that comes when we trust in Jesus as our Savior. It means that Jesus paid for our sins when He died on the cross for us, so all our sins and the guilty feelings we have are washed away. It also means that we can pray to Jesus when we are tempted to sin, and He will help us say ‘no’ to sin. One day Jesus will take us to heaven. In heaven, we will be free from sin forever.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the many freedoms that we have in our country. Please continue to bless our nation and keep us safe. Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, so that we would be free from the death that comes from sinning. Help us to believe and trust in Jesus as our Savior. In His name we pray. Amen.
