Putting Christ in the Center, part 1

Colossians 3:23
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not man. (NIV)

We know that God created us. We know that God loves us. But, how do we show God that we love and appreciate Him?

The Bible tells us that if we love God, we should do our best to obey His commandments. The Bible verse we are focusing on today tells us that we need to do more than just follow the rules. We need to put Christ at the center of our lives. How do we do that?

Well, with everything we do, we should do it just as if God Himself were in front of us…calling us by name and asking us personally to do that particular job.

Let’s imagine that your doorbell rang, and when you opened the door, God Himself was standing there. He walked into your house and asked for a drink of water. We would probably serve it to Him in our best and cleanest glass. If it was a hot day, we might put some ice in the water to make it cool and refreshing. We might offer Him something to eat to go along with the water…maybe a cookie or a cupcake. If it was close to suppertime, perhaps you would ask Him to stay and eat with you.

In other words, we would do our best.

Would we make the same special effort if it was someone else who was asking for water? What if it was someone we did not even know…a perfect stranger? Well, this Bible verse tells us we should do everything just as if God Himself was in front of us asking.

What would you do differently today if God was asking you to do it?

God, please help us to put You in the center of our lives. Help us to remember to do our best in all things…to do everything as if You were here asking us. Thank You for all Your many blessings. Amen.
