Christian Living, part 1

Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (NIV)

This verse from the Bible starts out by telling us who we are. We are people who have been chosen by God.

Have you ever been chosen for anything before? Maybe someone has chosen you to be their friend, or maybe someone has chosen you to do a special job for them. How did it feel to be chosen? I imagine it made you feel pretty good.

When someone chooses us, it means they think we are pretty special. They like us, or they like the way we do things. When we are chosen for something, we become set apart from the ordinary. We are no longer just another person. We are special.

God chose us, not because of anything that we have done. He chose us because He loves us. He loves us for who we are. We do not have to be good looking or smart or perfect in any way. He loves us just the way we are.

Knowing this should fill our hearts with joy. We could never do anything well enough on our own to deserve God’s love, but that doesn’t matter. He loves us anyway.

Because God loves us, and we love Him, we become His children. We belong to Him. Therefore, we should try and live in a way that would be pleasing to Him and show others that we are one of God’s chosen.

Tomorrow we will talk about what this verse tells us about living the Christian life. It can be both a challenge and an adventure.

Dear God, thank You for choosing us to be holy and set apart for Your purpose. Teach us through Your Word in the Bible how we should live. Let our lives be examples for others of how wonderful You are, and how great Your love is for us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
