Christian Living, Part 5
July 17, 2010
Judith Anderson, Ministry Consultant – INChristian Living, part 5 Colossians 3:14
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (NIV)Another big part of living as a Christian is love. We know that God loves us. This verse reminds us that we also need to love other people.
This means to love all other people, not just the people we like, or those who like us…but even those people we don’t like. What if someone is mean to us – love them anyway. What if someone smells bad – love them anyway. What if it is someone who calls us names – love them. What if it is someone we don’t know - love them, too.
In the past few days, we have talked about many things that we need to embrace in order to live a Christian life – compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness and now, love. This Bible verse tells us that the most important of all these things is love.
This is because love…that is, the kind of love God has for us and the kind of love He wants us to have for each other…will naturally lead us into these other qualities. Love puts everything together and holds it together in perfect harmony.
Love is forgetting about ourselves and making the other person more important. Love involves doing for others and treating them with respect and kindness. Treating people the way you would like to be treated. Being a friend and telling them about God.
Who are the people you love? Parents, brothers, sisters, other family members, friends, caregivers?
How do you show them you love them? Are you kind to them, patient with them, help them when they have problems?
Tell someone today that you love them. Tell them also about how much God loves them.
Dear God, the best feeling in the world is knowing that You love me. Help me to love other people and share Your love with them. Amen.
