God's Love in Our Hearts

July 23, 2010

God’s Love in Our Hearts

Romans 5:5
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. (NIV)

God, our heavenly Father, loves us enough to send us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our helper and fills our hearts with the love of God. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can be filled with love for others. That’s what God wants us to do…love one another.

Are there times when someone does something to you, like pushes you on purpose? Or they say something to you that makes you unhappy, like calling you names. Maybe what they say makes you sad. Perhaps what they say or do makes you angry or mad.

Those are the times when you can go to God in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and fill you with love for that person. God wants all people to show love to others, just like He gives us His love every day.

As Christians, we need to remind ourselves that it is not by our own strength that we can reach out with the love of Christ, but that the love of God is given to us daily by the Holy Spirit. We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit each day to live according to God’s will. When we are filled with God’s love in our hearts day by day, we can love others. We need to ask for strength each day by the Holy Spirit, so that Christ may always dwell in our hearts.

God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to become human, just like us, and teach us all how to love others. God wants His people to love Him with all their hearts and all their strength. God knows that is not always easy for us to love others by our own strength or power. That is why God has given the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.

God waits for us to open our hearts to Him in love. With God’s love in our hearts, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can follow Jesus and share our love with all people.

God of love, thank You for loving us the way You do. We praise You for Your love. We pray that You will fill our hearts with the Holy Spirit, so that we are filled with strength to love all people. Amen.
