Scholarships

Lutheran Student Scholastic and Service Scholarships: 2013-14 Academic Year

Lutheran students and seminarians preparing for careers that will enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are invited to apply for Bethesda Lutheran Communities Student Scholastic and Service and Scholarships. Each year $10,000 is awarded in competitive scholarship monies. A committee of Bethesda Religious Life staff from across the country review applications and make final selections. Applicants must provide documentation of academic history, service hours in support of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and letters of recommendation.

2013-14 Scholarship Categories:

College and University Students: Up to two $3,000 scholarships will be awarded each year to Lutheran students pursuing undergraduate degrees in any academic area that will prepare them to serve and support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Eligible Criteria

  • Be an active, communicant member of a Lutheran congregation.
  • Be classified as a freshman, sophomore or junior at an accredited college or university.
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have a career objective in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Seminarian Students: One $3,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to a Lutheran seminarian displaying interest in service to people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a congregational setting.

Eligible Criteria

  • Be an active, communicant member of a Lutheran congregation.
  • Be a current college senior, accepted to begin seminary studies in the fall, or currently be classified as a first-year student or second-year student at any seminary affiliated with the WELS, LCMS, ELCA, LCMC, ELS or NALC. Students going on to their internship/vicarage year do not qualify.
  • Have a commitment to inclusion of people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities within the local parish.

High School Senior Students: Up to two $500 scholarships will be awarded each year to Lutheran high school seniors pursuing a post-secondary degree in any academic area that will prepare them to serve and support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Eligible Candidates

  • Be an active, communicant member of a Lutheran congregation.
  • Be classified as a senior.
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
