Scholarships & Awards

Bethesda's scholarships and awards program encourages Lutheran youth to develop God-pleasing attitudes and actions toward people with individual differences, and to consider careers in the field of developmental and disabilities services.  The Scholarship Program has been revised for the 2012 school year.

$3,000 Scholarships for Two College Students (entering the field of developmental disabilities)

The application process includes a short, relevant essay, 100 hours of paid or volunteer work in the field of developmental disabilities, services and letters of reference.

Eligible Candidates

  • are active, communicant members of a Lutheran church
  • have achieved sophomore status or higher at a college or university, not necessarily a Lutheran college
  • have earned a minimum 3.0 overall GPA

$3,000 Scholarships for a Lutheran seminarian (WELS, LCMS, ELS, ELCA, NALC)

The application process includes a short, relevant essay, 100 hours of paid or volunteer work in the field of developmental disabilities, services and letters of reference.

Eligible Candidates

  • are active, communicant members of a Lutheran church
  • have satisfactorily completed at least the first year of study at WELS, LCMS OR ELS seminary
  • and have a dedication to inclusive ministry to people with developmental disabilities in the future parish

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Awards for High School Seniors

The application process is designed to promote the student's awareness of the career opportunities in the field of developmental disabilities. Applicants must submit letters of reference, a transcript, documentation of at least 25 hours of paid or volunteer work in the field of developmental disabilities, and interview two professionals in the field and submit written summaries. Two $500.00 awards are given.

Eligible Candidates

  • are active, communicant members of a Lutheran church
  • ave achieved senior status at any high school
  • have earned a minimum 3.0 overall GPA
  • and have an interest in a career in the field of developmental disabilities
