Vocational skills
Bethesda's day services offer vocational development, job coaching, life skills training and leisure activities to help people with developmental disabilities grow personally, socially and spiritually.
Skill Development and Training
Training is available in life skills development and activities of daily living, such as:
- Friendship, social and leisure skills
- Personal awareness
- Health maintenance, including exercise, range of motion and indicating illness
- Communication
- Personal hygiene
- Independent toileting
- Life safety
- Christian spiritual development from the Lutheran perspective
- Vocational skills
- Educational instruction with professional, degreed Day Services Instructors
Community Involvement

Members of Watertown, Wis. day services deliver food to the Watertown Food Pantry
Community involvement activities include:
- Outings (museums, shops, parks, tours, etc.)
- Recreational activities
- Community events
- Dining out and restaurant etiquette
- Interaction with community members who volunteer at day services
- Volunteering at churches, humane societies or the Special Olympics
Employment and Training
Day services strives to provide employment opportunities such as:
- Work opportunities within day services such as recycling activities (shredding paper and/or crushing aluminum cans)
- Work opportunities through community contracts and through local employers, either in small-group settings or individualized opportunities with job-coaching assistance provided by day services staff
- Vocational training through the production and packaging of crafts and other decorative items to be sold by local merchants, in vendor booths at community festivals and events, and at local craft fairs
