Celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month with Bethesda!

Employment for people with developmental disabilities is an ongoing and important issue.

According to the Office of Disability Employment Policy, companies employ only one-third of working-age people with disabilities compared to two-thirds of people without a disability. That’s twice as many people!

"The real tragedy is that many of the people with disabilities who don’t have jobs are not unemployed due to a lack of job-related skills," said Kristine Leonard, Community Life Coordinator. "They are unemployed due to a lack of welcoming workplaces. Due to this, many people with disabilities who are lucky enough to have jobs can only find them in low-paying occupations!"

Celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month because you believe that inclusive and meaningful employment for people with developmental disabilities is an important part of helping them live the best life possible.

At Bethesda, we celebrate disability employment, alongside our 130 business partners who offer jobs to the people we support. Learn more about our Employment Supports and other ways you can help people with disabilities live the lives they want, today.
