Just one of the guys: Concordia baseball player brings out the best in his teammates
Posted on: June 5, 2018 | Posted by: Tim Kapusta
Matthew "Matty" Van Eerden, a second-year Bethesda College student, has a unique relationship with Concordia University’s baseball team.
Matty LOVES baseball. He’s repeatedly asked Concordia’s baseball coach to join the team, but unfortunately, he is not able to compete at the collegiate level. However, it hasn’t stopped Mattie nor Concordia’s baseball team from embracing him as one of their own.
In fact, last fall, the players held a mock tryout for Matty and he has continued to stay involved with the team – sitting in on team chapels, assisting at practice, and, in general, hanging out with the players on campus.
Recently, the team competed in its last conference tournament before senior players and Matty walked across the commencement stage.
